About the Adelante Promotores Conference
San Diego County Promotores CoalitionThe purpose of the Adelante Promotores (Go Forward Promotores) conference is to celebrate Promotores/Community Health Workers (CHWs), and motivate and prepare them in their valuable and honorable work. As a result of the personal and professional nature of Promotor(a)/CHW work, the conference aims to provide the tools and skills for individuals to progress in and handle the personal impacts of their work. The goals of the conference are to:
- Increase the Promotores’ personal and professional skills
- Provide resources and tools to facilitate the work of Promotores
The History
In 2010 the Chula Vista Community Collaborative (CVCC) saw a need of personal and professional development opportunities for Promotores. To fulfill this need, the CVCC began coordinating training opportunities and providing scholarships for other trainings and conferences. To recognize the value and work of Promotores, the CVCC organized a “small” conference. The name of the conference was “Adelante Promotores”.
The name was chosen to communicate the goal of helping Promotores “move forward” in their careers and aspirations while dedicating a day to celebrate Promotores and motivate and recognize their work. Following the first conference, the Promotores took the initiative to design the Adelante Promotores logo. The logo shows a Promotora going forward opening a door of opportunity to a bright future. ¡Adelante! Since the first conference, the work of Promotores/CHWs work has been increasingly recognized for the unique and invaluable service to the community. As a result, the San Diego County Promotores Coalition aims to further the vision of the CVCC by continuing the annual Adelante Promotores Conference as a coalition of organizations and also growing the conference to what it is today.
