Congratulations to Liliana Osorio on her new position as Director of the Health Initiate of the Americas! 

Liliana Osorio, MPH, is the Director of the Health Initiative of the Americas (HIA), at the School of Public Health, University of California Berkeley. She received her Bachelor’s degree in Social Communication and Journalism in Colombia, and her Master’s in Public Health at San Diego State University.

Since joining HIA in 2002, Liliana has overseen the coordination of the annual Binational Health Week, one of the largest mobilization efforts in the Americas to improve the health and wellbeing of Latino immigrants in North America. She also coordinates the annual Summer Institute on Migration and Global Health, an international academic event that provides new knowledge and training to professionals and graduate students working with mobile populations around the world.  Over the years, Liliana has collaborated on all HIA’s projects, including the Research Program in Migration and Health, the Binational Policy Forum on Migration and Public Health, and the Binational Promotores Program. She has managed several national and state-wide campaigns in California targeting Spanish-speaking Latinos, in different health topics including mental health, pandemic influenza, Zika, access to health insurance, and occupational health. Liliana is the editor of four editions of the “English – Spanish Dictionary of Health-Related Terms”. She has also collaborated in the development of several other publications including educational manuals for community health workers and fact sheets on migrant health issues.

Besides her work at HIA, Liliana serves as a member of the Board of Directors of two non-profits organizations in San Diego serving mainly uninsured/undocumented migrants, and since 2018 she is a regular volunteer at a shelter for asylum seeking families in San Diego.
